THE INDIANS BATTLE THE MUD AT THE HAYWARD HUSTLE
Hayward, WI. – The Menomonee Falls Indians Mountain Bike Team hit the
rain drenched trails of the nationally known CAMBA trails in the
Chequamegon Forest just north of Hayward, WI. The race started on the
muddy Birkie trail and quickly went into single track that was in
pretty good shape. However, when course would switch back to the
Birkie double track trail the riders were faced with wet muddy
conditions again.
Unlike the prior races, the team was unable to pre-ride the course the
day before, because of the rain, forcing the athletes to treat their
first lap as a bit of a pre-ride. They also needed to adjust to wet
and muddy conditions that they had not seen in prior races. Overall
the team met the challenge and had a good day racing.
The middle school race started out with a half hour delay with the
muddiest conditions of the day. Eighth grader Aidan Kilbourn took 38th
place gaining valuable experience racing in the mud. Senior Kenzie
Schmidt secured 9th place and Senior Lindsay Bons secured 11th place.
Both girls had a tough race, Schmidt overcoming being sick and Bons
had to run the last part of her final lap into the finish line,
because of her chain snapping. Senior Jack Strosahl took 31st place in
JV boys race. Strosahl lost a little bit of ground on his competition,
however he was still able to secure his second best finish of the
season. Sophomore Evan Bosch took 20th place to lead in the Falls
Sophomore boys. Followed by Jared Schwartz taking 25th place and Jazz
Dubinsky taking 29th place. Dubinsky crashed during his last lap and
had to walk his bike across the finish line. Freshman Vann Kempf took
39th place.
In team standings for division 2, Falls took 11th place out of 39
teams.
Up next for the Indians, the Wisconsin State Championships at the Iola
Winter Sports Area, Iola, Wisconsin where they race a mix of fast
flowy trails, punchy climbs and sand. The competition will take place
Sunday, October 22.
