The Phelps Chamber hosted the 37th Annual Midwest Musky Classic fishing tournament on October 6th, 7th, & 8th in Phelps Wisconsin. 119 participants caught 18 fish on 4 lakes – North Twin, South Twin, Lac Vieux Desert, and Big Sand Lake. Most participants call Wisconsin home, but three other states sent a musky fisherman to Phelps, including Georgia, Illinois and Indiana.

The tournament attracts everyone from the serious musky hunters to recreational fishermen. 1st place takes home $1200 cash and a Lax replica of the winning fish; 2nd place is $800, and 3rd place is $600, with Big Fish of the Day cash prizes for each day of the tournament. All muskies that were caught were successfully released.

1st place and Big Fish of the Day Friday went to Brandon Lewandowski of West Bend for a 47 ¾” catch on Big Sand. Jay Rosenbecker from Menomonee Falls took 2nd and Big Fish Saturday with a 46 ½” musky caught on Lac Vieux Desert. And 3rd place and Big Fish Sunday, also caught on Lac Vieux Desert, was awarded to Barry Von Groll from Appleton for his 46 ¼” catch.

The participants enjoyed a lunch and raffles on Sunday where awards were presented. A big thank you goes to all of the volunteer judges, sponsors, and raffle donors for making the tournament possible. The 38th Annual Midwest Musky Classic will take place on October 5th, 6th, & 7th, 2018. For more information, contact the Phelps Chamber at 715-545-3800 or visit online at www.Phelpswi.us.
